Caribbean Concertos for Guitar and for Violin ( Naxos) has been nominated for ‘Best Classical Album’ in the XIII LATIN GRAMMY Awards. Presented by the Latin Recording Academy, the LATIN GRAMMY is the recording industry’s most prestigious award. The honor recognizes artistic and/or technical achievement, not sales figures or chart positions, and the winners are determined by the votes of their peers-the qualified voting members of THE ACADEMY.
On the CD are two concertos for violin and orchestra by Ernesto Cordero with Guillermo Figueroa as soloist (violin), Concertino Tropical and Insula, Suite Concertante. This last one was written and dedicated to Figueroa by the composer. The violinist gave the premiere of the work in Zagreb,Croatia in 2009 with the renowned chamber orchestra Il Solisti di Zagreb, the same orchestra in the recording. Included in the CD as well is Concierto Festivo, a guitar concerto by Mr. Cordero performed by virtuoso guitarist Pepe Romero.
